-Everybody went back to college. So here I am, with nothing to do, waiting anxiously for the next two weeks to pass. Real glad I got to go see everybody I wanted to see, though. It’s good to know some people never change.

The State of Life – December 23rd, 2009 [MEGA Edition]
December 23, 2009It’s been a long while since I had enough time to write a long ass post. Luckily, I now have the time. Hit the jump and check out what I’ve been up to the last few weeks, plus my thoughts on Million Dollar Baby, Borderlands, Assassin’s Creed 2…etc.

Just My Thoughts
December 9, 2009-That New Lupe Fiasco mixtape (Enemy of the State) has something weird going on with his flow, but it’s definitely interesting. Very solid piece of work overall. His lyricism is actually on FIRE. Unlike Jay-Z [who, is fittingly mentioned later this post], you literally have to pore over the text – not listening, but visually. Yeah, it’s like a bloody novel, just to catch how clever some of the things he says are. Kid is killin’ it with the lyrics.
-I added a new tag for the site – “My Writing”, which differs from my standard blogging voice. There’s a big difference. As always, more thoughts below.

The State of Life (MEGA EDITION) – October 2nd, 2009
October 2, 2009Woah. So. It’s been quite a while since I’ve had one of these.
Let’s try to recall all the crazy things that have happened.
I was offered the scouting/announcing jobs for Galileo football with my boy Nick (and, together there ain’t a duo half as sick as this).
I am now teaching a weekly class on Personal Statements at Galileo High School.
I plan to apply for the newspaper at UC Berkeley next semester.
Fuck, CALSO is pretty soon, too.

The State of Life – July 29th, 2009
July 29, 2009Today’s State of Life column will cover alot of topics, as you can see by the post tags. Hope you enjoy! LOL.
Monday, I visited UC Berkeley with a very large group of people (Best Friend Samantha, Jenny, Betty, Mary, Jack, Eric, and Ryan)! I’ve actually been trying to organize this trip for quite some time, but summer schedules did not allow it. A smaller group of us went to Berkeley early in the summer, but we went back again to tour. On our way up to Berkeley, I SWEAR I SAW CHRIS WEBBER PASS US ON THE BART. But I said it really loud and none of the guys saw him, but everyone around us looked at me. Oh well, nothing I’m not used to.

My First Experience with the Mission District
July 26, 2009It’s funny how you can live in a city your whole life, but barely know it at all. Well, I suppose that’s not surprising when you’re 17 and you haven’t really lived for 15 and a half years. Never the less! Today, I crossed off another thing I haven’t done in my life.
Me and one of my best friends, Jenny, decided to go to the Mission District in San Francisco today. Her first piece of advice? Don’t wear red. (Kind of hard, since I usually do, but I managed to put on my Galileo football shirt and black hoodie. Funny thing is she was wearing Galileo gear too. Haha. What a coincidence!) I suppose she didn’t want me to be mistaken for a gang member and shot up. Good advice. So, we hopped off the train at Dolores Park. I was awed. The place was huge – you may have seen it in The Pursuit of Happiness. Perfect place to have a barbeque..It was a really nice day. Real warm.
One of the first places we stopped at was Bi-Rite ice cream (and cheese store several blocks later). Apparently this place is really highly rated in SF..and we were going to split a sundae there, but she didn’t want to get darker waiting in line for half an hour. You’re silly, Jenny. Well, I doubt you’ll read this, but still. By the way, Bi-Rite’s cheese samples were disgusting. So too were their crackers. Thumbs down.
There is alot of beautiful graffiti art in the Mission, too. Alot of people think that tagging on the bus or the bathroom is real art. No, that’s a bunch of scribbles…but real graffiti can create masterpieces. To see art decorate the walls of buildings gives the neighborhood an extra flavor and liveliness.

I noticed alot of streetside garage sales, which were also cool. Maybe I should go hunting here when I get an apartment. Hidden throughout the Mission are alot of unique shops. Never knew that either! Including some that sell dresses for 4 bucks, and some hole in the wall book stores and DVD shops. I even saw a woman selling bootlegs on the street, which reminded me alot of Vietnam. Haha!
Rumor has it that the Mission neighborhood is home to the “Heart Attack Dog”, or bacon-wrapped hotdogs. Me and Jenny looked over about 10 blocks, but alas, our search was unsuccessful. Hope I find it next time! We did in fact see many vendors who sell mangos with hot sauce or something..But I am not a fan of exotic fruits. Passed.
Instead, we ate at La Taqueria. It was like, 2PM, and the place was packed. I guess the Zagat awards and Yelp reviews will do that. We both ordered a $3.50 Carne Asada taco, and I have to say…they use very nice ingredients. The steak was incredible, and though I’m not a huge fan of herbs, the entire package was a very nice taco. Wish they had hot sauce, though. All in all, very good place. Crowded, though.
Then we headed back to Icebee’s (Icebe? IceB?) so Jenny could get fro-yo..So that ends my Mission adventure.
Guess I’ll have to go again sometime. They sell ribs there. /drooling.
Today was the kind of day that reminds me I could never leave SF. There’s too much life, too much eccentricity emanating everywhere – from the street to the citizens. Too much left for me to discover HERE, let alone anywhere else. I would consider New York, but then I’d have to be up too late to talk to anyone here. So, no chance.
Later on today – a checklist of places I need to go. Stay tuned as I cross them off getting older.
