College and Assorted Thoughts

January 31, 2010

-It was sweet, poetic justice to watch Brett Favre fail miserably last Sunday. That may sound harsh, but the reality of it was that that play was exactly what we expected from him. An interception to end the season, often on a poorly thrown ball of some kind. Some people say – “We wouldn’t have gotten that far without Brett”. You made it to an NFCCG. With Gus Frerotte and Tarvaris Jackson, you made it to the second weekend. That means overall, Brett Favre represented 3 more wins on a season. Really? For all that? Three wins? Marginal improvement, really. Tracy Porter sure as hell redeemed the crap out of himself for the PI call on Berrian…and then topped it off with a badass Jared Allen taunt. Do I think they will pressure Manning this time? Doubt it. Make no mistake, Favre was gutsy to even be out there…but I have to say I enjoyed watching karma catch up to him.

Bay Area Sports Update (Angry Asian Edition)

July 30, 2009

I’m going to first start off with the “big” news. The Giants traded standout AA class pitcher Tim Alderson for basically, 1.5 years of All-Star Freddy Sanchez. Okay. That doesn’t look so bad without the details, does it?

Except, Tim Alderson is one of the highest ranked prospects in our organization. Though many scouts say that he has taken a step back this year in his control and what not, I was very excited to see him come up to the majors in the next few years along with Bumgarner (who is the better prospect at this point). Admittedly, prospects are a gamble. Which moves me over to point number 2.

We traded for a potential stud for a guy who was not much of an upgrade at all. Don’t believe me?

Let’s Get Spicy (Post NBA Draft)

July 1, 2009

So, last week, the Warriors selected Stephen Curry in the first round. I’m…not really sure how I feel about this. The only prospects I really liked were Harden/Griffin this year, and I was really worried we’d go with Rubio or Curry, guys who are undersized, because that would mean we’re running two undersized guards, neither of whom can cover a bigger shooting guard.

But my worst fears were realized on draft night. Don’t get me wrong, I think Curry will fit right in in the system. He can shoot, he’s a decent playmaker (check out his teammates at Davidson if you don’t believe me. He got 6 APG out of THAT.)…but I think it says alot about our future.

I mean, Belinelli’s another guy who can flat out shoot that we drafted. But he doesn’t play either. So…I’m really not sure what we’re doing at this point.

PG – Curry
SG – Ellis (I mean, first of all, we signed him to a long term extension to play the point. But he says he’s okay with the decision.)
SF – Jackson
PF – Randolph
C – Biedrins

Still lacking some defense all over. At least we didn’t trade out for Amare. The package of Wright/Biedrins/#7/Beli would’ve been too much for him – though he IS extremely talented.

I’m really trying to like this pick. I am. But I just…don’t know what we’re doing. Well, look forward to another losing season in Golden State, people. Damn.

Heartbreaking.
